Pay me what you owe me
So where is the easiest place to start? Resist the urge to rummage through photos - it’s too easy to get lost in that corner of the archive. That’s Hogwart’s Room of Requirement. Maybe the Mirror or Erised? Don’t get lost in the metaphor, dorks.
Paperwork? I can do paperwork.
There is a large “stack ‘n save” file holder that I filled with what can only described as “just in case” documents. Old taxes, receipts, miscellaneous adult-type signed stuff. Now that it has been a decade, the only practical use I have for most of these papers may be to shred them or, OR to send it over to the state controller to claim what’s mine.
And what is the unclaimed property process you ask? I assume it’s a sneak peak into purgatory. Here are just a few of the forms you need to fill out of submit:
Good thing I kept it all, because, yes I do have my grandmother’s utility bill from 1994. If you are going to make some claims, check your list and check it twice. I read through the list of requirements four times before I understood what i needed and I still almost sealed the envelope without a complete set of forms.
Ultimately, I took a triumphant lap to the mailbox, but I won’t get too comfortable - let’s await the inevitable clerical error or missed document before we pop any champagne.
My shredder… she’s hungry.
